We met Antonia and her husband, Max, on May 21, 1985 at the Bernal Función . They were a dynamic duo, Max on the fiddle and Antonia on guitar and button accordion. After Max died, Antonia didn't play for a year and was quite depressed. Jeanie and Cleofes went out to visit her and Jeanie talked her into putting strings on her guitar and to get her accordion out and the next time we visited her she was playing up a storm. She said that when Jeanie and Cleofes showed up, she was prepared to die and hadn't turned the heat on or eaten anything. We have played with her for many years, at Port Townsend Festival of American Fiddle Tunes, the Smithsonian Folklife Festival and all over the west.
